Hi! I'm Wayne Tapia from Tacoma. I've been a hard core KZOK listener for many years. I can remember listening to the Dr. Demento show when I was a kid (if that gives y'all a clue to how old I am!). I followed several of the folks there around the dial throughout the years, and I'm glad they stayed in town (Slaton's Disco Destruction is one of my early rock radio memories).
Back in 2003, I dropped everything - left my job as the president of a small aerospace manufacturing firm, sold my house, sold tons of my stuff - packed up my family, and moved to Orlando to get a degree in Audio Engineering for Film. Having been a gear head and recording
freak since I was a child, It was something I HAD to do. Moving across country was tough as most of my wife's family lives in Washington, but the fact that we were 20 minutes from Walt Disney World seemed to cushion the blow considerably (especially for my 2 daughters!). I'm back in the Seattle / Tacoma area now, working with various film makers and anyone else needing my services. I also work with Blue Jeans Cable (www.bluejeanscable.com) making home theater cabling solutions.
There is one thing I'd like to say about traveling around the U.S. of A. - KZOK is a gem. I used to frequently travel for my previous job, and the sheer numbers of "Booger and the Nut Hut" type shows are staggering. I was SO happy, when I came home, to be able to get some good radio. I really don't think anyone can touch the on-air personalities that we have here. Most of what I encountered was the loud, brash, and UNFUNNY shows that focused on "shock jock" material,
or (my least favorite) bad comedy that they'd laugh and cackle incessantly over. The worst was a road trip between Memphis and Nashville when the only rock station I could find on the dial was playing a Jackyl marathon... no lie...
Rivers, Crow, & Slaton - You guys are the Trinity of Rock Radio in my book. Keep up the great work and I'll keep listening!
Sincerely,
Wayne Tapia - C.A.E.
