Steve Slaton was born and raised in Tacoma. This fact alone may explain many things. In 1958 he cut his first tooth on the Chuck Berry 45 of “Johnny B. Goode”. A few years later a pre-teen Steve was influenced by cute teenage girls who lived down the street that were fawning over a new group from England called The Beatles. From that point forward it was all about rock n’ roll. Steve earned money to buy records from picking strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and beans in Fife, Puyallup and Sumner. An album cost $3.50. Steve was paid 2 cents a pound for picking blue lake green beans. Radio seemed like a better idea. And as $1.60 an hour to baby-sit an “Oceans of Beautiful music station” playing 1001 Strings doing versions of Beatle hits – it was.

While still a teenager, Steve became a popular disc jockey in Tacoma. This led to 19+ years at KISW and 15+ years at KZOK. In 1992 Time Magazine interviewed Steve and dubbed him "Regent of the Local Deejays". Having never attended an institute of higher learning, Steve had no idea what "Regent" meant, but it sounded good.

Beatles, Stones, Zeppelin, U2, and Pink Floyd are a few of Steve's faves. He also loves a group he can't name but their initials are AC/DC. Meeting Bob Dylan and interviewing Paul McCartney have been highlights. Steve's show has resonated with discerning listeners for decades.
